I just wanted to pop by and say hello.
I'm so touched by those who've thought of me today. It's been a surreal day. I'm a good six miles from the nearest blast, so I feel remarkably unscathed. Somehow, the Madrid bombings made me feel worse, and today cannot compare with 9/11.
When I first turned on the news this morning, they were citing power surges as the cause of the blasts. Any explosion is horrific. That these explosions were terrorist attacks doesn't make them any worse. These people want to maim and murder, but have they spread terror? Not to my mind they haven't. They don't have that power over us.
What's happened is outrageous and tragic, but it hasn't tipped Londoners into panic.
Today, I'm so proud of my city. |

I've cut right down on my online fandom time. It's just better this way.
But I'm still on email - see my profile if you want the address.

God, I love Ricky Gervais; he's just written a children's book, which is set to become a best-seller:
"I've been trying to do the book for about six years, but nobody answered the door until I knocked on it with four Baftas."

This made me laugh.
A headteacher has bought safety goggles for his pupils to wear when they play conkers in the playground. (It's from BBC News.)
In my day, we used to have inter-house conker competitions, with nary a thought for our infant eyes.

Tomorrow might be a stressful day.
It's my hairdresser's last day!
I'm going in to see him at 9am. (It was the only appointment left.) I just wrote him a sappy card. God, I hope I don't make a fool of myself. I *still* don't know what he's doing next, or where he's going. For all I know, he may be moving to a salon down the road, but I got a bit melodramatic in the card and was all 'god be with you til we meet again.'
OK, not quite.
I think my FL deserves to know his name. I'm sure he's as much a part of your lives now, as he is mine. Everyone calls him 'Choccy' because his last name is eclair. I don't actually know his real name! LOL
Do I need to explain that last bit to my American counterparts? |

Oh dear. I think I can see myself getting addicted to The Farm.
I've got to admit, I'm so curious to see more of Rebecca Loos. She spoke a little about the whole DB thing. (Go, Five for not deleting sound!) She said that he was the first person to break her heart, and that Posh doesn't have any friends. (Hee!)
She also indicated that Posh has him completly under her thumb, which gels with something else I heard on Saturday. Apparently, the only reason he won't leave her is because she'd prevent him from seeing the children. How could that work? Legally, if the marriage breaks down because of his infidelity, will he be denied access?
He's a celeb. The rules are different for them! He just needs a judge who's a footy fan!
Also, I think I may develop a mini crush on Richie. |

I woke up yesterday in a bad mood. This was due in part to having to get up at 7am to take my sister to the airport, but I didn't feel much better afterwards.
I dragged myself very reluctantly to the gym, and I was amazed at how much my mood lifted. The reason? Not exerciser's high or the presence of buff-men-in-shorts, that I could explain. Nope, it was all down to the man directing traffic in the carpark - he was dressed as a clown and he was on stilts.
I guess there's something to be said about looking after your inner-child.
The Beckhams are suing the News of the World over its story that their marriage is in crisis. Let's get this clear: they're not suing over two women claiming that David committed adultery with them, but because the NoW had the audacity to cast doubt on the stability of their marriage. Shocking, I know.
Some extracts from the piece, written by a lawyer in today's Guardian:
The Beckhams had their chance to sue over the Rebecca Loos story but didn't. Now there is doubt that the story was defamatory (if untrue). They had the chance to injunct and to sue various media (and Loos herself) as the story rumbled on and the allegations were repeated. Neither occurred, which was telling.
Now we see them suing on a weaker libel that draws back on the Loos story. It's very difficult to see how the Beckhams can win and one suspects the News of the World has weighed all this up. No doubt the newspaper has confidence in its source, but one suspects that even if the source is flaky, the Loos history will come home to roost.

I got it into my head that I needed a sparkly, multi-coloured beaded bag to go with the fabulous purpley/blue silk suit I bought for Rick's wedding.
I go to about the six biggest shops in London, and I can't find any. I used to love shopping, now it's just stressful. :(
I'm doing a reading at the church, so the outfit's gotta be just right! I don't want people staring at an unmatching (and un-cute) bag. Plus, it wouldn't be respectful to Jesus. |

Today I'm annoyed.
My writing class started again, and afterwards when we were in the pub, I casually asked where Oliver was (he's the one I had the shit-hot chemistry with), and the answer was Melbourne.
:(
Not only that, but the girl who told me had met him for drinks over summer. Her name is Soozi, people. I know for a fact she spells it Susie, but 'Soozi' tells you everything you need to know about her.
How dare my non-crush crush go out with her! Why the fuck's he so chicken to ask me? (Aside from the fact he has none of my contact details.)
This may require drastic action on my part. I'm gonna have to get hold of his email and send him a casually breezy 'how are you?' type missive.
I'm brave like that when the object of my desire is in a different hemisphere. |

| Help, anyone? |
[Sep. 9th, 2004|12:02 am] |
I have a laptop with XP Pro and Word 2002.
When I'm typing, occasionally, the cursor jumps to some seemingly random place, and I end up writing new lines in the middle of words 5 lines up, or something.
I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what's happening? The only thing I can think of is that either my laptop has a bunch of mouse/keyboard shortcuts, that I'm accidentally hitting, or Word does.
I have a feeling it's linked to the touchpad of the laptop, because I never have this problem on my desktop.
It's also caused me to lose words. 100 today, which isn't much, but I'm scared now I'm gonna lose reams of stuff.

Belated happy birthday to the Diva. :)
I'm slowly catching up with posts - big thank you to Candy for the media you have up! :) |

I'm gonna gush about my hairdresser again.
I have a non-sexual crush on him.
He blowdried it curly today, and it looks gorgeous. :D
I was bitching about my hair, and how I wanted to cut it off. But he spent the whole time patiently telling me how much potential it had, and talking me through what I should do to get it curly myself.
And then he writes it all down for me.
*sigh*
When he was done, he played with it for a bit, and put it up because that made it more 'catwalk'.
I love him. |
